Abstract

Developing powertrains for electric vehicles (EV) requires first to evaluate the target vehicle. The resistant forces appearing during vehicle movement can be determined from vehicle data. The required power and torque for the propulsion system depend on vehicle speed and road slope angle. In-wheel motors are used to reduce the losses on mechanical transmissions. The torque, power, and speed capabilities limit the motors. The present paper analyzes the vehicle performance from this perspective, including nominal and maximum supported values by the powertrain motors.
